Product Description The iBert safe-T-seat was designed with quality and safety first. The safe-T-seat places the child up front, safely between the parent's protective arms. This evenly distributes weight over the bike giving a stable, safe ride. Kids enjoy the close interaction and the unobstructed view of the fun ahead. Mounted conveniently on the handlebar stem; the high, forward position allows you to pedal in comfort without banging your knees on the seat.
Amazon.com Product Description Created by parents who were disappointed with the family bicycling options available, the iBert Safe-T Front Mounted Child Bicycle seat was made to offer families the best biking experience possible in safety and comfort. This front mounted seat offers both parent and child excellent range of vision, with the opportunity to interact as they bike together. Noted for its ease of use, the seat takes just a few minutes to install and remove, and it is equally easy and safe to load and unload the child from the seat. Providing plenty of clearance for the knees so that the adult can bike with ease, the seat is positioned so that it is easy to maintain the center of gravity. This adaptable seat fits any adult bike with a minimum of 3/4 inches of clearance on the handlebar stem. The iBert Safe-T seat was developed after its creators became frustrated with the available bike seat options for children. They found that bike trailers kept their kids uncomfortably far away from them, got too hot in the sun, and only provided a limited view out to the children. The rear-mounted seats presented similar problems. The kids had a limited view and it was difficult to interact with them. Additionally, the balance of the bike was off and it was not easy to load and unload the kids. Other front mounted seats were complicated to hook onto the bike and difficult to remove. These seats also did not allow knee clearance for biking, and as a result were not comfortable. The iBert Safe-T seat offers a variety of safety and comfort advantages compared to other child bike seat options. The iBert Safe-T seat allows you to maintain control of the bike when loading and unloading your child. To load and unload the child, you simply straddle the bike and lift the child into or out of the seat. When using the iBert seat you can always see what your child is doing and you can make sure that your child is safe and comfortable at all times. The center of gravity in the iBert seat is closer to the center of the bike making it easier to control the bike as you ride. The seat sits higher on the bike and is smooth on the bottom so that even tall riders rarely brush the bottom of the seat with their knees and if they do they just glide along the smooth edges on the bottom. The iBert Safe-T seat is easy to install. The patented stinger assembly attaches to any bike with a minimum of 3/4 inches on the handle bar stem. The stinger system attaches to the bike in just two minutes and the seat can then be attached and detached from the stinger in 15 seconds. If you buy additional stinger assemblies the seat can be attached to multiple bikes. The iBert Safe-T seat is made in the U.S.A. with safety and quality as the main objectives. While the iBert Safe-T seat is designed to meet all 1625-00 standards, at this time ASTM 1625-00 is written for rear child carriers not front mounted seats. Really good seat - but one fairly big flaw for me August 19, 2008 I have two toddlers, and I got this seat because I wanted to have both kids on my bike with me, but I didn't want to use a trailer. That meant having one kid ride behind my seat (I got the CoPilot Limo Bicycle Child Seat for that) and one in front, which I bought this iBert seat for. First of all, the pros of the seat.
1) Super easy to install (on my bike at least). The Co-Pilot literally took me hours to install (although I suppose one could say that was an issue of the Blackburn CSR-1 bike rack that the seat snaps into and not the seat itself, but the fact is that rack was a huge pain to install, on both of our bikes, as well as on my neighbor's two bikes). The iBert installed in about 15-20 minutes. That being said, although the iBert hardware was easy to install, the benefit of the Co-Pilot install means that you can pop that seat onto different bikes at your whim (if they have the rack installed), whereas the iBert will only go on the one bike you have with the iBert hardware. Nonetheless, the easy install was VERY much appreciated!
2) Both of my girls love riding up front. It really gives them a feeling that they are "riding" the bike. They can put their hands on the handle bars and they are seeing what you are seeing.
3) It's easy to talk to the kid in the seat. Also, since you are seeing the same things, you can talk about the features of the landscape/cityscape as they occur. It is much more difficult to hear a child that is behind you because the wind whips the sound away from you. With the child in front, a) your head is within a foot of their head [as opposed to 3 feet away] and b) the wind is whipping their words right at you.
Now for the big con of the seat, for me anyway. There is not enough room between the back of the iBert and the front of my seat for me to stand. Unfortunately, while my bike fits me, the seat doesn't go low enough for me to be able to put my feet comfortably on the ground while sitting on the seat. Under normal circumstances, I simply stand over the bar of the frame, but with iBert on, there's not enough room. This means that going up and down curbs, or waiting for traffic or pedestrians is pretty uncomfortable and I have to dismount the bike completely to go up or down a curb. If your bike seat can be lowered so that you can get your feet on the ground, this won't be as much of an issue (although you will no longer be in the ideal position for pedaling...)
I do like the seat a lot. As I said, the riding part and getting to have conversations with my daughter while riding is particularly delightful. When she's riding behind me, it's hard to hear her or to know what she's talking about because I can't see what she's looking at.
front bike sit August 18, 2008 I have been tried several bike sits for my son. This particular sit seem to the best fit. Compare to other sit I feel the safest with the sit. My son is sting between my arms makes it a very safe enjoyable ride for him and me. In addition, the sit is very easy to attach and detach form the bike and I was looking for some thing like that. I would defiantly recommend this sit to any one.
Love this seat! August 17, 2008 I order this to use with my adult trike and I cannot say enough about it! My 20 month old daughter loves it and cries when the bike ride is over. We have tried a rear mounted seat, as well as a trailer, and I rate this above both of those. I am able to talk to my daughter, point things out to her and just truly enjoy the experience together. I installed it myself in five minutes. I have no complaints, it is a great product and worth ever penny.
GREAT! August 15, 2008 This seat has proven exactly as good as the reviews suggest. I am an experienced bike rider and wasn't sure how well it would work. But it's absolutely great. My daughter, who is 2 3/4, loves it. She is part of the action and rider and passenger are able to talk about what we see. I feel completely safe riding with her (she's just over 30lbs). Easy to control the bike. Installation took just minutes with some post-adjustment to ensure unhindered pedalling.
FRONT RIDING BIKE SEAT August 11, 2008 HAVEN'T USED THIS YET, BUT IT WAS REALLY EASY TO INSTALL AND OUR SON SEEMS TO LIKE IT AS WE HAVE PUT HIM IN IT TO SEE HOW IT FITS, ETC.
