Not very scientific, but very funny! March 11, 2010 A. Nandy (Washington, DC USA) This is a quick read that will provide a lot of laughs. Jenny does a great job of poking fun of the strange changes your body will experience as a result of pregnancy. I learned about some things that I have yet to experience, and could relate to those that I've already encountered. The book's chapters are short, only a few pages, and cover a myriad of topics - making it easy to put down and pick back up again. I wouldn't use this as your go-to pregnancy guide by any means. But it would make a fun gift for a newly pregnant person or a good pick-me-up for those of us who are well on our way.
A MUST for pregnant women! Laughter is the best medicine! March 9, 2010 Randi (Tyler, TX) Wow, this was funny. I read it all in one night cuz I couldn't put it down. Jenny McCarthy is so hilarious as she describes what pregnancy was like for her. And while you may not experience everything she did, you can really relate. Very Funny, and uplifting, especially when pregnancy can make you feel crummy, or achy or moody-this will definatley give you some laughs!
OK. few laughs, but as expected plain celebrity book... March 8, 2010 E. Udo (brooklyn, NY) I admit I had few laughs and some hilarious ones
BUT
I can't say throughout the entire book reading. Parts were very plain, so boring they wouldn't challenge my brain...not even my slowing brain as a pregnant woman...it mostly lacked consistant talent in writing. Couldn't shake off the feeling it seemed like it was written by a celebrity who's desperate to sell something- a book,
as well as to shift public attention to "their" pregnancy, there were parts I felt celebrity-author grew tired and scratched ideas off the wall...like some overexhausted engine that wanted to prove they're cool & smart. There were too many points where I felt the celebrity-author lacked MATERNAL DEPTH (I'm sure she's evolved since then...) and that's how I came to determine that this book is a waste of money because It's unlikely I would grab it off the shelf for a 2nd reading, to me it felt like buying an O.K gossip magazine where you may be this happy-escapist for the 1st 10 minutes but then you end up throwing to the trash b.c it's ain't one of those books that accrues any value...
Not funny, inappropriate, and gross February 26, 2010 Julia Hart (District of Columbia) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
If you thought this book is going to make you want to be pregnant -- you're wrong!
I read the first few chapters and was surprised that this book received so many good reviews on Amazon. So I gave it another chance... Big mistake. I'm grossed out forever!!! :-) And it's not that I don't have a good sense of humor -- I do, but this is just not what you need when you want to get information about pregnancy. Yes, she does give you some of her experience of being pregnant, but every woman is different and this book might just scare you. I truly believe that when you read a pregnancy guide book, or any pregnancy book for that matter, it doesn't need to scare you or add more fears to the already feared experience. I hoped that Jenny will add some scientific facts, but she really avoids doing all that: "that's what the doctor said. Or something."
Girls, if you're looking for a pregnancy book -- that's not the one. Oh, and please don't ever show it to your husband. Thanks.
My favorite pregnancy book I've read! February 22, 2010 Stephanie L. Boles (Maine) I have read several of the highly recommended pregnancy books lately, but I found them all to have the same cut-and-dry (and slightly intimidating) facts and viewpoints. Belly laughs took a look at pregnancy from the layperson side, and actually gave me a lot more usable information than the encyclopedia-type books did. As an early-twenties mom, it gave me the info that I can't just find on google!
