Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
The Complete Sailor takes the reader from the first sail to a mastery of small-boat handling. Weaving his writing around 600 drawings by noted marine illustrator Kelly Mulford, David Seidman has created a book in which each double-page spread invites the eye and communicates volumes of information. The Complete Sailor goes beyond other learn-to-sail books to cover navigation, boat design, and seamanship. Encyclopedic in scope yet warm in style, it conveys the magic as well as the techniques of sailing. Among the other topics covered: anchoring, ropework, rigging, weather, fog, squalls, currents and tides, rules of the road, trailering, and working the winds. The book is a gentle introduction for those just starting out, and a guide to new horizons for those who already sail.

5 out of 5 stars The real deal   December 15, 2008
Covering all aspects of sailing, in an entertaining way, this is an easy read that can take you from novice to knowledgeable. The illustrations alone (pen & ink) are worth the price. I use this book to teach children to sail on a small Adirondack lake and recomend it to adults after lessons on Lake George, it works for me!

5 out of 5 stars ONE OF THE VERY BEST   November 5, 2008

5 out of 5 stars A very special book - Required reading   October 11, 2008
If I were told I could keep only one sailing reference book, I would choose "The Complete Sailor". The style and layout of every page is a work of art. This book was clearly crafted with love. Virtually every important topic relating to sailing is covered with great clarity. The illustrations help the reader understand the concepts. Absolutely the best!
