Product Description Everything was so much simpler#133; When he was wicked. In every life there is a turning point. A moment so tremendous, so sharp and breathtaking, that one knows one's life will never be the same. For Michael Stirling, London's most infamous rake, that moment came the first time he laid eyes on Francesca Bridgerton. After a lifetime of chasing women, of smiling slyly as they chased him, of allowing himself to be caught but never permitting his heart to become engaged, he took one look at Francesca Bridgerton and fell so fast and hard into love it was a wonder he managed to remain standing. Unfortunately for Michael, however, Francesca's surname was to remain Bridgerton for only a mere thirty-six hours longer -- the occasion of their meeting was, lamentably, a supper celebrating her imminent wedding to his cousin. But that was then#133;Now Michael is the earl and Francesca is free, but still she thinks of him as nothing other than her dear friend and confidant. Michael dares not speak to her of his love#133;until one dangerous night, when she steps innocently into his arms, and passion proves stronger than even the most wicked of secrets#133;

Loved it! Loved it! Loved It! January 4, 2009 This is my favorite of the Bridgerton series. I loved Michael's character. He was just so tortured and I can imagine how difficult it was for him to control his feelings for Francesca all those years. I couldn't wait for them to kiss! The tension was positively killing me and I couldn't wait to see how it ended.
I adore Francesca too. I can understand how guilty she must have felt - that if she allowed herself to love Michael she would betray her first husband's memory. But even in the beginning, you can tell she cared a great deal about Michael and how close they were even when her husband was alive.
Definitely a keeper! I'll read this one again and again!
Entertaining December 7, 2008 Spoiler warning;)) The beginning of this book was quite slow. And for some time after Michael returned from India, I just couldn't see how they could possibly end up together. When Francesca run away to Scotland and he followed her, it was just too much. I didn't like it that he seduced her - even though he asked her for permission. Just stupid. And then that she didn't know what to do, whether to accept his proposal or not, all the while sleeping with him and giving him false hope... I don't know, it was just all so rushed. And one moment they are both full of guilt, the next they are both just fne with being together. What I liked most about this book was that the usual roles were reversed: this time, the hero was the one who was secretly in love with the heroine for years without her knowing. I fuound it a bit cruel that he had to go through such an ordeal and so many feelings of guilt to finally achieve happines. All in all, this is a typical romace book. It is quite entertaining, relaxing, and you get your happy ending, which is all that matters in these books. If you have an afternoon to spend, I would recommend this book.
How do you know? November 12, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Q. How do you know when a book is good? A. When there's tear stains on the last page.
One of my favorites in the series September 16, 2008 I just finished the whole series, and looking back, this was one of my favorites, so I don't understand the negative reviews of others. I liked the storyline- different and unpredictable- and I really felt for the characters. I just finished "On the Way to the Wedding" this morning, which I also loved. I think I will keep this series and re-read it again sometime next year. I inhaled them!
When He Was Wicked September 4, 2008 KEEPER!! I read 5 books per week and only have 6 keepers. So romantic! This was not a light read but in no way was it as dark as other reviewers are making it sound. It's just not as lighthearted as other JQ books. I love the wonderful dialogue between the main characters. It's fast, quippy and charged. I always love a romance where the man is madly in love but has to hide his feelings. This was no exception. This was an emotional roller coaster right til the end. I just loved this book!
