Product Description
Until the phone calls came at three o'clock on a November morning, the Golds and their neighbors, the Hartes, had been inseparable. It was no surprise to anyone when their teenage children, Chris and Emily, began showing signs that their relationship was moving beyond that of lifelong friends. But now seventeen-year-old Emily is dead—shot with a gun her beloved and devoted Chris pilfered from his father's cabinet as part of an apparent suicide pact—leaving two devastated families stranded in the dark and dense predawn, desperate for answers about an unthinkable act and the children they never really knew. From New York Times bestselling author Jodi Picoult—one of the most powerful writers in contemporary fiction—comes a riveting, timely, heartbreaking, and terrifying novel of families in anguish and friendships ripped apart by inconceivable violence.

The Pact - Picoults Brightest January 1, 2009 This book is one of Picoults best. The descriptions of the moments that caused Emily and Chris to fall in love are riveting and beautiful. The events to describe their childhood paints a picture of the trial Chris is faced with. This book will remain one of my favorites.
wonderful December 28, 2008 this is my favorite of jodi piccoults books. there were many different elements to the book that kept it interesting. i would highly recommend this book to anyone.
Great book-page turner but it leaves you wondering December 22, 2008 I purchased this book and once I began to read it I couldn't put it down. It was a page turner. I wanted to know how it ended but I had to wait until the end..I can't flip to the back!!! The endeing was good but Picoult leaves you with some lingering questions that you had hoped were answered in the story.
Don't Read This Book December 17, 2008 I read this book about teenage suicide several years ago and was incensed at the iresponsiblity of the author in romanticising in a sick Romeo and Juliett type of way two obviously disturbed teens contemplating and finally commiting this selfish act!Teenagers have enough to contend with in this day and age with drugs, sex, violence, peer pressure and absent parents.I hope Ms.Picoult's own children never read or take this book seriously or the rest of the children throughout the world.Highly irresponsible writing. This is no "love story".It is a nightmare.
Marvelous December 12, 2008 The Pact is a wonderful book. It kept me on the edge throughout. It seemed like I was reading a real life story. Very vivid details so one felt like they were right there with the families. A marvelous read.
