Amazon.com Review
Cutting with a Chroma Type 301 knife is like driving a Porsche, and for good reason. Designed by Ferdinand A. Porsche (the designer of the Porsche 911) with input from renowned Austrian chef Joerg Woerther, Chroma Type 301 cutlery excels in both performance and looks. Sleek and sexy, each knife looks like one seamless piece, but the blade and handle are actually different types of steel. The blade is crafted of superfine Japanese 301 steel and hand-sharpened into an acutely sharp angle for precision cutting. The handle is made of durable 18/10 stainless steel, triangular in profile and flat-topped for leverage, a totally unique and ergonomic design. Announcing the transition spot between handle and blade is a metal "pearl" that lets the fingers know their position, in place of a bolster. The comfort and control, not to mention the spectacular visual appeal, of a Chroma Type 301 knife have made ardent converts of many chefs worldwide.

The Chroma Type 301 bread knife features a very sharp, 8-1/2-inch serrated blade that slices efficiently through soft or crusty loaves. You'll also find it slices tomatoes beautifully. Weighty and well-balanced, this knife will bring you years of pleasure. After use, Chroma knives should be immediately washed and dried by hand, and placed in a storage block for safekeeping. Because of the serrated blade, this knife must be professionally resharpened. Chroma Type 301 knives make exceptional gifts and are covered by a lifetime warranty against defects. --Ann Bieri

5 out of 5 stars Great knife! Buy the whole set.   April 23, 2004

I recently purchased a set of 6 of these knives, and I couldn't be happier. We were originally considering Global and Wusthof Culinar knives, but once holding those and then these, we decided these were the knives for us.

Their unusual design is not only stylish, but functional. The wider handle design makes them easy to hold onto, even when your hands are wet or greasy. (Not the case with the other two.) The knives are also heavy and extremely well balanced, giving you a solid feel when you cut through something. Finally, they are forged out of just one piece of metal, so there are no seams (like on the Wusthof Culinar line) between the handle and the blade, making them a breeze to clean up with a little soapy water. (As with all good knives, they should never be put in the dishwasher.)

This bread knife cuts through soft or hard bread with ease. It is so sharp that I think it will be a long time before it needs sharpening. (For comparison, I use some of the other knives in my set every day, have had them for 3 months, and I'm just thinking of sharpening for the first time soon.)

I really don't think you could go wrong with this knife.
