Amazon.com Review
Lodge Color is one of the newest lines from this respected American cast iron cookware company. Traditionally shaped and more affordable than some European brands, Lodge Color enameled cast iron is just as durable, requires no seasoning, and attractively serves at the table. Lodge infuses this 6-quart Dutch oven with two coats of hard-as-nails porcelain enamel, in a choice of several bright colors that are gradated (dark to light) on the exterior, and which are nicely set off by a cream interior. Embellished with concentric circles and a black knob, the lid, which also fits the Lodge Color 11-inch skillet, is oven-safe to 400 degrees F, so you can start a stew or casserole on the stovetop and finish by baking it in the oven. The 6-quart Dutch oven measures 10-3/4 inches in diameter and 5 inches deep.

Lodge enameled cast iron makes a smart choice due to its versatility-you can marinate raw meats in it, since it won't absorb odors or flavors, and you can braise, saute, simmer, and bake in it. Made in China to Lodge's meticulous specifications, each cookware item is first clad in matte black enamel before the color is added. The black rim that shows on the oven is actually the scratch-resistant matte enamel, not the raw cast iron. Though the Dutch oven is dishwasher-safe, washing by hand is recommended to best preserve the glossy finish. Look also for the pricier Lodge Enamel series, with its unique L-shaped lid knob, in a different set of colors and sizes to suit any kitchen. All Lodge enameled ware is covered by a lifetime warranty against defects. --Ann Bieri

5 out of 5 stars Great Purchase   November 19, 2008
I'd been looking at the French brand but just couldn't bring myself to spend that kind of money. This does just what it claims and I've used it at least twice a week since I got it. I've used it to make soup, make a roast, and just last night made my grandmother's fudge recipe to sent to nieces who are working in China. Even with the scorching on the bottom from the fudge, a short soak and it cleaned up beautifully, no scrubbing necessary. Very good value for the money. I've had it about a month and used it 6-8 times. No problems with any chipping.

4 out of 5 stars Beautiful but Made in China   November 14, 2008
I bought this Lodge Dutch Oven because it was recommended by Cooks Illustrated and for the color. It is beautiful, but was disappointed upon opening to see that it was made in China. This fact needs to be made prominent in the Product Features or Product Details. It is insufficient to bury this information in the Product Description. There are plenty of people, including myself, that do not want to buy products, especially cookware, made in China.

5 out of 5 stars Awesome Dutch Oven   October 17, 2008

I really debated buying this pot since everyone I know LOVES the Le Creuset version. I just couldn't bring myself to spend $300 on something when I could buy this one for 50 bucks.
I am NOT sorry. This is my favorite kitchen item now. I love it. I have made stew, pot roast, soups, Ropa Vieja and everything comes out fabulous.
It does take a bit of time for the pot to heat up but once it does, you can simmer with a very low flame for the size of the pot. It heats evenly, doesn't stick and cleans easily.
It is heavy and must be hand washed but I hand wash all my pans anyway.
If you are in the market for this type of pot, buy this one. You will not be sorry.

5 out of 5 stars picture perfect   October 16, 2008
Wanted to write to let you know that this was a fantastic gift for a family member.. i was skeptical about the price, time to be shipped, etc. and was sure id have a chipped dutch oven when all was said and done, but it was just like brand new, exactly like in the picture, and shipping was super quick!

2 out of 5 stars Don't Cook At High Temperature!   October 1, 2008

I purchased this dutch oven on Amazon because it was on sale and looked attractive. Unfortunately, I used it without reading the directions that said it shouldn't be used at temperatures over 400 degrees.

I made No Knead Bread with the dutch oven and cooked it at 450 degrees. Sure enough, the knob on the lid cracked and when I took out the bread, there was a nickel-sized hole in the enamel finish at the bottom of the pot.

Just a word of warning that if your recipe calls for temperatures over 400 degrees, this oven is not for you.
