5 out of 5 stars Terrific Stockpot!   January 6, 2009
I got this stockpot because it was on sale when I bought the matching 3qt saucepan and my 6qt Calphalon non-stick pot was showing its age. I was worried about it being huge and not being able to store it, but it's not that much bigger in size than the 6qt pot. I've used it for everything from chili to pasta to soup and chicken stock. It's terrific. It heats up fast and holds the heat, so I have to be careful about not burning things to the bottom while simmering for a long time. Sometimes it takes some elbow grease to clean the bottom, but it always comes off in the end. This was a great value for what I paid. I'm really happy with it.

5 out of 5 stars The gold standard for home cookware   December 9, 2008
My wife and I are trying to get away from Teflon coated items. And by next year I believe the government of the US will mandate no more Teflon cookware to be sold in the US. Our old teflon coated stock pot had croaked. My wife came back with this pot. (Teflon free :))

The quality is amazing! I had heard that Calphalon was high quality and it really is! The heft of the pot along with the tightness of the build is second to anything I have ever used to cook with in the kitchen.

The lid is just a micrometer too small so that it will never vapor-lock onto the pot when it gets hot. I have had other pots where it took an act of God and several icecubes to get a lid off. After a month of cooking with this it has never once vapor-locked.

You pay a little more for this quality but it returns in dividends in the end, because you will probably never need to replace this. Compare that to subquality cookware where you have to replace it every year or so.

The handle looks like it would take a crowbar to come off. I had a handle break off once on a cheaper pot, as I was picking up tomato sauce I had been cooking all day. Lets say I never want that to happen again, and it looks like it never will with this one!

A great product!

Thanks for reading my review.

5 out of 5 stars Worth the Money   August 28, 2008
The rivets are definitely big, right there on the inside surface that is used, but it doesn't matter overall. The pot is very sturdy, evenly weighted, handles well, and heats well. The handles feel appropriate to the distribution of weight - their design makes sense and feels right (which is especially important when dealing with a pot this size). The pot is not too tall and skinny; the large surface area on the bottom of the pot helps food heat evenly. Because the pot handles and works so well, I use it for much more than I originally intended.
