5 out of 5 stars Job well done   November 14, 2008

This is the biggest capacity frier I could find in this price range that had all the good features I wanted. It has a broad temp range, recovers quickly when cold food is put in, dual baskets or 1 big basket, and most importantly a built in thermomiter that is accurate and can see quick temp changes of about 10 degrees. It is much more responcive than my analog fry thermomiter. I especially love the digital controlls.

It is good to get a 5 liter frier even if you are making a small ammount of food because the greater capacity of oil means less of a drop in heat when food is put in. This equates to food that is less greasy.

4 out of 5 stars Nice fryer for the price   October 10, 2008

I bought this fryer and used it a dozen times. I liked the capacity and there was a small hassle figuring out how to get the timer to work (never did). The unit seemed to have a problem with the thermostat not being accurate all the time and I got a code "EH" on the LED readout. I called aroma and was unable to get through to customer service. I left a message and they never returned my call. I later tried a second time a few days after and got through in a minutes time (shocking reversal). They told me to return the unit as it was only two weeks old. I am going to get another because I did like it and I hope I get a good one this time. I did find one other negative and that is the thinness of the metal cover..it bends too easy and is thin enough to possibly cut you if mishandled. Still this is a good fryer and I recommend it anyway.

5 out of 5 stars Great value for the price   July 28, 2008

Honestly I was a bit dubious of this product initially, considering its price point. But after having used it for the last few months I can definitely recommend it.
Previously I had a Delonghi, which was a great design but did not hold the temperature very well and eventually the drain hose began leaking (oddly they do not sell replacement hoses which is really ridiculous). I had never heard of Aroma before, but figured for this price it was worth a shot. Turned out to be a great purchase.
PROS
Much larger well than some of the other fryers I checked out and allows for the basket to submerge fairly deep. No problem covering the items fully in the oil.
Because of its size, the temperature stays pretty consistent, even when the basket is full.
Heats up fairly quickly considering the size of the well.
Pretty easy to clean, and the design of the well (it separates from the rest of the unit) makes it much easier to drain than I though it might.
Temperature gauge seems accurate
CONS
I HATE the way the timer on this is done... It's handled via a multi-function button, which you can easily screw up when you are in a hurry. No easy way to just put it "3 minutes" and let it go. For some people this will be less of a deal breaker than others, but seriously - I would pay 10 bucks more for the same unit with a real stand-alone easy-to-program timer.

Overall I highly recommend, especially if you do large batches of fries or tortillas. This is a great product for the money.

1 out of 5 stars Great unit - IF it worked   May 20, 2008

This unit was a replacement for one I purchased a year ago that quit working about 3 days after the warantee ran out- and I only used it a handful of times. The new fryer I bought was defective from the minute I took it out of the box, something was wrong with the electrical output and it caused it to blow the breaker within 3 minutes every attempt made to use it (most of the time it was within 10 seconds). I know it is not my electric as it is the identical model to the one I had that worked for a year but just incase I took it to my neighbors and it blew his breaker too. I called Aroma first hoping they would just send me a replacement plug or whatever could be causing the shortage and they told me it was NOT their unit it was my home. They were snippy with me when I told them I had another unit of theirs that worked fine until it died very prematurely in my book. As much as I liked the fact this product holds a lot of food (which I need for my huge family) I am not impressed with their customer service or the fact their units seem to be defective.

The good thing is Amazon will take the return without any hassle and give me my money back. That makes it hurt a little less! ;)

5 out of 5 stars Great buy   May 12, 2008

My wife loves to cook with this fryer. The size will accommidate nearly anything. However, plan to fill with 1-1/4 gallons of oil. Clean up is great. The heat heating element lifts out to allow easy cleaning. The hanging baskets allows the food to drain into the fryer to minimize mess.
