1 out of 5 stars Never Delivered!   November 18, 2008
I ordered multiple gift subscriptions for Christmas 2008. I also ordered Ranger Rick. None of my amazon subscriptions were ever delivered. This was a very expensive lesson for me and I won't ever order magazine subscriptions from amazon again. Now I go directly to the magazine's own web site to buy.

5 out of 5 stars BEST Part of My Childhood!   November 12, 2008
Cricket magazine contains high quality short stories for children. They do a great job of defining a theme for each issue and tying several stories to it. They also do a great job at exposing young people to different cultures and ideas in a very mature way.

And, of course, a huge chunk of my vocabulary skills came from Cricket, literally to this day. I remember going through elementary school and recognizing long words that I learned specifically from this mag! I also brought copies of it to class many times to share with my 5th grade teacher because we'd always end up studying something in school that had a related article in Cricket that I had read. She'd always xerox the stories and pass them out to the class. Then she started reading it on her own and loved it so much that she told me that she bought a subscription for her own young children!

There's a lot of dirt out there for kids to consume these days, but Cricket has managed to retain its integrity. This magazine is on my must-read list for my own children.

5 out of 5 stars Knowledge for a lifetime   November 5, 2008
My father bought me this magazine when I was about eight or nine and I don't think I put it down until high school. Cricket mixes history, poetry, literature, artwork and creativity into an easy to read magazine for any child who needs to be encouraged to read. I will buy these for my children without hesitation. I hope that their lives will be as enriched as mine was by Cricket.

4 out of 5 stars Great Magazine . . . EXCEPT . . . .   October 2, 2008

When my daughters were little, we loved this magazine.

Then I noticed something that I did not like.

Most of the stories were about little boys, doing cool activities.

The girls were always passive. They were either the King's
daughter, or helping mommy. Yawn.

Ironically, most of the stories were written by women. They
had all kinds of excuses when I wrote them. Always in denial.

If you have a daughter, I still recommend the magazine.

But PLEASE get on their case about this!

2 out of 5 stars Long delivery time   September 4, 2008

Just to let the first time Cricket orderer know, they quote 3 to 4 months to deliver. It took **5** months for my niece to receive her birthday gift. I was not pleased. Hopefully it's worth the wait.
