The Heroin Diaries (the soundtrack to Nikki Sixx's addiction memoir of the same name) sounds nothing like the music that catapulted Nikki Sixx into the limelight (and, presumably, the dank and dark underground of addiction) with Moetley Cruee more than 20 years ago. And the music suffers for it. Perhaps Sixx didn't want to romanticize addiction and ill behavior by unleashing a series of rockers that would send fists high in the air and let the spirit, at least for a moment, soar while the listener struggled to better understand the seductive lure of dependence and decadence. (If anyone cares that much--this is rock & roll, after all, and not Oprah.) Instead, Sixx dresses the songs in the trappings of contemporary pop so that "Tomorrow," "Life is Beautiful" and "Accidents Can Happen" sound like lite imitations of the lesser bands that have captured the public's imagination in the wake of the Cruee's inexplicable absence from the recording studio. ("Permission" may even be Sixx's first stab at getting airplay on CMT.) The true rockers, far too slender in number, are half-realized and pallid; the lyrics are overly diaristic (yes) and fail to live up to Sixx's vintage street sophistication ("Dancing on Glass" and "Kickstart My Heart"). The Heroin Diaries comes off more like an affectless pity party than a walk on the wild side. --Jedd Beaudoin

5 out of 5 stars Best Rock CD In Years   November 30, 2008
Absolutley amazing. Always been a Crue fan mainly due to Nikki Sixx. The book is amazing and the songs on here are so awsome they just blow you away. Life is Beautiful and Pray For Me are my favs. I listen to this on a daily basis.Far better than any Crue cd.

5 out of 5 stars #1 CD in my collection!   November 12, 2008
The Heroin Diaries soundtrack is the best damn cd I've heard in years! I first learned of Sixx AM at the Crue Fest this summer. Great in concert and the cd takes me back to the live show! I recommend, recommend, recommend it to anyone who likes to rock. Terrific lyrics - really listen to the words - it relates to anyone (even if you are not or never were an addict). A must have for your collection.

5 out of 5 stars Creative Effort   October 28, 2008
To begin with, I think the fellow that wrote the official Amazon review for this album would probably have to click the NO bottom at the top of this "Create Your Review" page to the question of Are you over 13? On the contrary, this effort is MUCH more mature and developed than the fist pumping hard rock that Mr Amazon must love. The songs exhibit better song writing, and although the verse can be a little heavy, it gets your attention. Of course an album about herioin addiction SHOULD have heavy lyrics don't you think?. I would advise anyone who is a little tired of the same ole-same ole to pick this one up and give a listen.

5 out of 5 stars Powerful!   October 21, 2008
This album is FANTASTIC!! Both the music and the lyrics are POWERFUL!! I hope the band continues because I want to hear more of what they have to say and play. Buy this CD and crank it up!

5 out of 5 stars Amazing   October 13, 2008
The critic obviously has no idea what he is talking about or what the music is about. Nikki Sixx has told a most amazing story the has the ability to help so many people suffering from the same types of addiction. The fact that he was able to do it musically is absolutely brilliant.
In the future the critic should not do reviews on subjects he knows absolutely nothing about. Unless you have dealt with an addiction or someone trying to cope with an addiction, some of this may be too deep. But for any one who has, it is right on the money and beautifully done.
I guess the critic could possibly be in denial of his own addiction, or anyone else that did not understand the depth of the story, which in turn this would rub them the wrong way.
