Well, what can I say? No, it's not the best, maybe it is not even the worst, but it didn't meet my expectations, so that's bad. The first cd was killer. None of their other cd's come close to the first. I guess this time around I was really hoping for something so good, after being so disappointed with the previous cd's (aside from their first). I have them all and the only one I even listen to is the first one. I listened to the others maybe 2 times and it just wasn't satisfying. So, now they just collect dust.
Excellent CD! Anyone who gives this album less than 5 stars should be listening to Clay Aiken! October 28, 2008 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
This Slipknot album is excellent!! It has a hard/melodic/crunch style and is addicting to listen to. The song Snuff sounds like it would be more Stone Sour like, but the rest of the songs are all Slipknot! Gematria is a sick song that I cant get out of my head. If you havent bought this album by now, your missing out.
Slipping Knot October 25, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Slipknot is a great band with great tone, but the new knot is (obviously) slipping compared with their earlier work.
One of Slipknot's best September 22, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
First of all, I liked the whole album. A little different from their other releases, but solid. I loved the pacing of the entire album. from heavy one song to mellow another and back to something in-between. My favorite track has to be Vendetta. Awesome! and Snuff too!
Truly, All Hope is Gone September 18, 2008 6 out of 8 found this review helpful
On their new CD "All Hope is Gone" Slipknot find themselves continuing their trend of mixing decent Slipknot songs with horrible Stone Sour tracks and mixing pointless ambient/whining filler tracks in between to make it look like they actually wrote enough songs for a full album. Honestly... 4 years between releases and you still feel the need to fluff it up with filler junk just to irritate people that will have to push the skip button?
I can't say the effort is completely devoid of high points but they are few and far between. To get it out of the way, I recommend downloading the songs "Vendetta" and "Butcher's Hook". If you like those you might also consider the title track "All Hope is Gone". Anything else on here would send any self respecting Slipknot fan down a dark spiral of depression and disappointment.
I can't think of many things that make me cringe quite as hard as Corey Taylor's style of redneck-emo that he brings to most Stone Sour songs and, sadly, the majority of what's on display here on AHIG. I realize it's probably hard to maintain a grip on your sense of anger and hostility when you've had the kind of success that Corey has, but he certainly hasn't lost the ability to feel sorry for himself and whine monotonously for 4 or 5 minutes at a time.
There are some guitar solos on the album here, and I do at least respect the effort. I can't say the results are particularly impressive as they're some of the most lackluster and uninspired solos I've ever heard recorded, but at least the thought was there. I can't imagine what gave them the idea to put them on here, maybe they were just out to prove that Joey isn't actually the only talented person in the band. Unfortunately they didn't do much but reinforce that fact.
