Dolly's Masterpiece November 27, 2008 I purchased this album a month ago never having heard it before. I was a Dolly fan at the start of her career but had "lost touch" with her music. In one of my "bluegrass moods" I came across this CD and decided to give it a try. Wow, was I blown away! This has got to be Dolly at her best. The production value, musicianship, writing, and selection of songs are without par. And best of all Dolly is at her finest. She is so emotionally expressive it brings one to tears at times. Her voice really is the sound of an angel. She seems to hit the mark so effortlessly which is a testament to her vocal brillance. I have now played the disc over and over and consider it a forever classic. Great job Dolly!!!
Solid Dolly she should have skipped the covers August 11, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The album will not dissapoint most Parton fans ( I think) but the covers are a bit weak. Why would one of the greatest songwriters of the modern era cover others songs? It wasn't that her voice was bad, but at this point what I wanted to hear was that sweet spirit al la "coat of many colours" that comes through in her bluegrass work. The single "little sparrow" is by far the best piece on the album. For most Parton fans a good buy but bluegrass fans may want to just dowload the best songs.
One of Dolly's best albums ever March 8, 2007 Highly recommended - awesome Dolly with a mix of upbeat bluegrass and haunting ballads.
One of the greatest January 29, 2007 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Dolly Parton is among the greatest country music artists who ever lived - right up there with Hank Williams (Senior, of course), Patsy Cline, George Jones and one or two others. And this must be one of her finest albums. Her voice, as always, has an incredible emotional intensity and versatility but seems somehow richer and more relaxed, and the musical accompaniment - most notably the fiddle and banjo - are beyond compare. A truly wonderful experience.
She IS Country When Country Is Too Cool January 24, 2007 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
You want country music? NO!, Not Country Western or Chixie Dicks! This IS country music. Eddie Van Halen wannabe's do not play Telecasters with $5000 flaming paint jobs here! This is the real dolly we've wanted forever and ever now! Pure country, pure talent. I fell in love with Dolly again and in love with her spiritual connection.
