4 out of 5 stars Enjoyable and Nostalgic   December 2, 2008

I really hate to compare Duffy to Amy Winehouse, because there really are differences between the two. I think we get caught up in the era that their music reflects, but after listening to Duffy's entire cd, I heard a different take on soul without some of the grit of A Winehouse. Duffy provides a great collection of songs, without the overkill, and I enjoy each one. I am still troubled by the fact that American artist aren't putting out the most creative material with great lyrics, like these British artist...no offense to "B", but she's older and married with a top song called "Single Ladies", while these artist like Adele are coming out with great lyrics.

My favorite selections are "Hanging On to Long" and "Stepping Stone". I would give those songs 5 stars, however, all of the others would get 4 stars, depending on my mood! I would definitely recommend Duffy to those looking for a nice CD to relax to.

5 out of 5 stars A Powerful Voice With Much To Say   December 1, 2008

Luv,luv, luv'd this cd.Originally purchased the cd due to the videos played on VHI every morning while I dress for work. Duffy was listed as an artist "you oughta know". The first video released was for "Warwick Avenue", her voice was so expressive of a cheated and broken heart, that I would just stop and listen. When I purchased the cd, I found I loved several different cuts, for several different reasons. The cd has a retro feel, but the lyrics have resonance today."Distant Dreamer" could have been played for the Obama campaign.I cannot sit still when I hear "Mercy" not even if I'm driving, and with "Stepping Stone" I'm really hoping she finds someone to love and treat her well, I get the impression that she is not lucky at love.Absolutely, an artist you should know and worth a listen.

I love her voice. It is a good CD. I show her on "The View" and decided to buy her CD. "Stepping Stone" is the best.

5 out of 5 stars Old School Soul, For A New School Audience   November 29, 2008

Off the cusp of the Amy Winehouse sound, we're now treated to an immensely talented and soulful singer by the name of Duffy. She has one of those familiar faces that you think you know and one of those voices that you haven't heard for decades, unless you break out your old album collection of course. She flew into the UK charts with her debut single "Mercy" the backing music was nostalgic and the voice unique. Many compared the woman to Ms. Winehouse, but I would certainly put Duffy in a category of her own easily comparing her to the Etta James' of the world.

What annoys me in a way is, she's so talented, I mean that with true sincerity but it upsets me that she has now resorted to the robbing tactics of releasing a "Special" edition version of the album with about 6 new songs, one to be a single. It seems to be the trend of the music companies now as a way of milking as much money from the fans as possible. I would honestly advise that if you haven't bought the regular album already then wait for the special edition. The extra songs are worth the cash, I just don't think it's right that people should be forced to buy the original album and then should have to fork out again for the special edition.

Top 3 songs are the current singles

1. Mercy
2. Rain On Your Parade
3. Warwick Avenue.

Buy it and love it (The special edition I mean.)
