Awesome and always a classic. November 21, 2008 Imagine a world of peace. Imagine a world of blue skies, clean air and clean oceans. Those of Lennon's generation knew what the world was headed for and John wrote it in this song. Those of the upcoming generations must do something about it because we failed to do something about it fast enough.
The Archetypal Social Justice Anthem March 9, 2008 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
John Lennon's "Imagine" set the standard for socially conscious artists since he first sang it back in the '70s. It's an idealistic song, about an end to religious strife (is it even more timely now, when people are persecuted and killed for their religious beliefs in Tibet and Darfur?) It's about an end to nationalism... again, what's wrong with that?
Lennon knowingly sings,"I'm a dreamer, I know I'm not the only one." He knew that world peace couldn't be achieved in his lifetime, nor that it would be. He hadn't become jaded. He remained idealistic to the end.
Some condemn this song as a pinko Communist anthem. When Lennon is singing about Heaven and Hell, it's more about how we make this world. As for the "nothingness",he sings of it in a Buddhist sense. In Buddhism, the bliss of nirvana is nothingness, and unity with everything. It's not an abysmal void. Some have claimed this song is terrible at graduations (especially Christian ones) and that it's a bad influence on youth. What's wrong with a little peace, love, and understanding? It's true we can't achieve a perfectly peaceful world and universal harmony, but shouldn't we imagine a better world, and at least TRY? Give peace a chance!
A classic! January 1, 2008 6 out of 7 found this review helpful
5 stars, buddy. 5 stars if not MORE! Stop with the Neocon crap. You've ruined the damn country, already. I'm aware that we no longer teach art in school. The song is a meditation, alright, the man is thinking. A peace classic.
It's not about peace.... December 29, 2007 1 out of 14 found this review helpful
It's about a world of nothingness - not peace. Search on Nutopia in Wikipedia and learn about John's and Yoko's "world."
"Lennon commented that the song was 'an anti-religious, anti-nationalistic, anti-conventional, anti-capitalistic song, but because it's sugar-coated, it's accepted.' Lennon also described it as 'virtually the Communist Manifesto'."
I learned about this by watching Evan Sayet's video. Search on Evan Sayet in YouTube and pick "How Modern Liberals Think."
I'm sorry to burst the bubble, but while it sounds good, it's actually a depressing song. I gave it two stars just because it sounds good.

This song is simply amazing. Can i say more? The song asks you to imagine a better world full of peace. Its John's dream and every time i listen to it i get chills. His voice is just that beautiful. - This song and "Working Class Hero" are must haves.
