4 out of 5 stars The Whistling Song - Hopefully Introduces You To The Pinker Tones   June 22, 2008

The Pinker Tones are one of my favorite bands, and they are a very creative group. They mix so many different styles of music that nothing can really be "representative" of them. Still, this is one of the few TPT songs that to me just sounded "ok." The song is very poppy and may still appeal to some, but this is not even close to being their best stuff.

This has a very "pop-ska" feel to it, and the beats behind the song don't really pop like I am used to. Like I said, it's ok. I just expect so much more from a band I like this much.

I guess when you start so strong it's hard to improve. Their first album was awesome and their second was even better. Perhaps the record company wanted to give them more wide appeal. It's not uncommon to have them make songs with no vocals, or songs sung in Spanish, French or something else. So even though they sing in English too, like I said this isn't the norm.

Definitely check out The Million Colour Revolution or even More Colours! The Million Colour Revolution Revisited if you want to hear some of their more creative stuff. I'm sure this new album is still very good. But when you expect only "great" music from a band, anything less is bound to leave you wanting more.

Enjoy.
