For high-speed backbone extensions to the SmartSwitch family, Enterasys offers the High Speed Interface Module (HSIM), a user-configurable interface that plugs into selected switching modules and provides connectivity to FDDI, Gigabit Ethernet, ATM or WAN environments.The HSIM-W87 is a high-speed interface module designed to provide WAN DS3 connectivity to the SmartSwitch family. Supported by all of the SmartSwitch platforms, the HSIM-W87 saves money by bundling CSU/DSU and M13 functionality. The HSIM-W87 provides up to 28 separate DS1 connections, or aggregates channels with Inverse Multiplex to form up to a 45 Mbps WAN connection. Operating in either bridging or inverse multiplex mode, the HSIM-W87 provides scalable, high-speed LAN to WAN connectivity at an unparalleled price point. The HSIM-W87 is perfect for central office environments where up to 45 Mbps of WAN connectivity is required, and is also suited for branch offices where equal load sharing across the WAN is required, but ATM is too expensive.
