Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
This filter is used for photography with infrared films. Infrared film is also sensitive to ultraviolet rays and the shorter wavelengths of the visible spectrum so it is necessary to filter out all but the infrared rays. R72 passes only infrared rays above 720nm. It is often used in crime detection, medical photography, detection of distribution of vegetation, etc.

5 out of 5 stars Top-of-the-line IR Filter   August 24, 2008

After stumbling across some IR pictures on the internet, I thought I would try to take some photos myself with my Sony DSC-H2. It seemed like the Hoya 58mm RM-72 was the most common and best fliter to use. My only gripe is with Sony, in that I needed to use the lens adapter for this filter to fit on. Otherwise, I was greatly impressed with this filter. I will definitely purchasae Hoya products in the future.

5 out of 5 stars The world of Infrared   November 3, 2007
A slight learning curve with this filter has led to some absolutely stunning and remarkable photos with my Canon G7. Tripod is a must since 15 second exposure times are the norm in full sun, but the wow factor is incredible. Color photos appear as olive-tones for the sky (again, G7) and the silver/gray for the foliage. B & W is just grayscale. Very cool filter if you want to try something new. Quality tripod will help immensely with windy days. Beware of sun-flaring when shooting towards the sun as this is not a UV or polarizing type filter.

5 out of 5 stars Works as promised!   October 31, 2007
Just what I expected! Works great with my Digital Rebel XT. You have to use really long shutter times because most of the light is being blocked by the filter. 15-30 seconds in daylight was working for me. Of course that was with an F22 aperture. It feels solid, as I would expect from a Hoya filter. I look forward to many interesting photos with this filter.
