"Upgrade" is available to everyone. Save over 50%. December 6, 2008
There are no pre-qualifications required to be eligible for this "upgrade" version. Nowhere in the license or installation is there any requirement to have had a previous version of Finereader. On their website [...............], Abbyy says "Upgrade is a special version for those who have the appropriate number of licenses for ANY OCR software product". Since this package is half the price of the full pro version, I highly recommend buying this version instead.
The OCR itself is the best I have ever used. Like any of these products, it's not perfect. But it is amazingly good. It has the ability to separate the analysis, recognition, and export phases. By correcting any mistakes in analysis before the recognition starts, the results come out virtually perfect. Highly recommended.
Very Accurate & Easy to use OCR Software Package September 8, 2008
I purchased ABBYY FineReader 9.0 Pro and used it to OCR a 560-page book this weekend. The book contains genealogy information, with numerous reproductions of old documents and family pictures. I wanted to create an electronic copy for archival purposes, and to make the contents "searchable" in PDF document format. It did a fantastic job of recognizing the text, with virtually 100% accurate text replacement suggestions. It also did a very good job of recognizing pictures, with only a few document reproductions needing manually selection with the picture box tool. I was also impressed with the compact PDF output. Using the 'print quality' (300dpi) picture setting produced a PDF file size of just under 25 MB for the entire 560-page document! The OCR process and quick review of the 560 converted pages only took about two hours. I'll probably go back later for a closer check of the FineReader document, but I doubt I'll find many OCR errors.
My congratulations to the ABBYY development team, and special thanks to Amazon for getting this order to me in one-day using standard shipping!

I have tried other PDF to Word converters and this is
the only one that can actually convert the test, tables, etc
into an editable documents.
