Gluten September 19, 2008 As of September 18, 2008, the description above says this soup is "Gluten Free". It also says the soup contains "soft barley" which contains gluten (with the same/similar protein structure as wheat, etc.) and can not be eaten by people with gluten sensitivities or allergies.
I do not know if this product is mistakenly advertised here as gluten free, or if the McDougal soup makers do not know that barley contains gluten. Either way, this could be very harmful to someone with a gluten allergy if they trust the "gluten free" label and don't read further.
Tasty soup, but... "natural flavor"? August 12, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This soup tastes really good. It has a smooth consistency, not lumpy like canned split pea soups. Perfect portion for lunch - 240 calories total, only 10 calories from fat -- wow. Sodium is kind of high - 600 mg if you eat the whole cup (RDA for sodium is 1600-2400mg a day). This soup has 16g protein and 50% RDA for Vitamin A. Label says "Product of USA" and it's "certified vegan." But, "natural flavor" is one of the ingredients listed on the label. I've read that "natural flavor" may not be a good thing. What is it exactly, and why can't they just tell us? Considering how high the sodium content is in this, is it MSG in disguise? I'm not crazy about that mystery ingredient.
Soup Lover's Delight July 9, 2008 This is a great tasting, easy to fix, quick, natural, fabulous lunch for those on the go. The price is great, the soup is very satisfying. I love it.....and no weird stuff inside....natural and low calorie too.
